I know that this is a beloved classic. I wish I could say it was beloved by me, because I know a number of readers who gobble this series up. Sadly, it took me almost a month to read this book, with hampered my enjoyment of it.
What I loved was the fact that Gabaldon did a lot of research. She wrote convincingly about Claire's experiences as a time traveler and the things she'd have to adjust to. I also loved the life that she breathed into most of her characters, especially Jamie Fraser. *Swoon* ...more

Just couldn't put this one down. And I know, ignoring the time travel, I was constantly reminded of the improbability of an almost-modern-day woman being able to slip, largely unnoticed, into society 200 years before her time. So I bought this book for 50 cents. I knew nothing about it I just bought it because it was cheap. It took me forever to get off the first page but when I got passed I found a really good story that I became a little obsessed with. I love the relationship between Jaimie and Claire, that's what kept me reading this book and the rest of them.
