I liked this a lot better than Paper Towns, although the two are often compared (and for good reason).
John Green books never seem to hit me as hard as they hit most people. I tend to enjoy his characters (well, most of his characters) and his dialogue is a lot of fun, but the plotlines tend to not make me cry the way they seem to for other people, and I always feel like they are a bit melodramatic. This was true for this book as well.

This is one of the most beautiful books that I have read in a long time. The ending especially was so satisfactory and one of the best ending I have probably ever read. It was very enlightening and the after part leads to many questions about the book, which makes you think in new ways. The After part also adds some mystery to the whole book. Totally worth reading and adding to your "most influential books" list.

It's a testament to John Green's skill that I could like this book while not liking either Pudge/Miles or Alaska. Or their "romance." I did like the Colonel though. I'm with the people who think those who don't think there should be drugs, sex and alcohol in this book are people who don't know/remember what teenagers are actually like. (view spoiler)

I didn't enjoy it as much as The Fault in Our Stars, which is the only other John Green book I've read so far. Maybe because the characters were very much high-schoolers, whereas in The Fault in Our Stars, they've got concerns beyond high school?
It offers plenty of food for thought and I appreciate that, but it took me longer to read and was darker and less playful than I was hoping for. Heavier, more oppressive. But intelligent. But it didn't make me cry; I wasn't attached enough to the charac ...more

I liked it but I didn't love it. I went out and bought this immediately after reading The Fault in Our Stars thinking it would be the same level of awesome and I was disappointed.
Miles/Pudge is likeable and his friends are interesting but the main love interest, Alaska, is annoying and frustrating. She reminds me too much of the girl you can't stand in high school and wonder how boys can be stupid enough to want her.
