Wow. Life through Janie's eyes is something I don't think I'll get over very quickly. The topics Hurston covers through Janie are so varied and important. The place of women in society, the place of black women in society, the intersection of marriage and love (or the LACK of intersection between marriage and love), tensions between whites and blacks, tensions between light- and dark-skinned blacks, tensions between blacks and other people of color, tensions between classes.
