I really liked it. Once you got in the flow of reading the slang, it was an easy and fast read. It was a compelling story. She kept me guessing the whole time. I know that with a classic book like this you're supposed to read into a lot and try to find the hidden meanings, but I just took it for a interesting story to read. I did notice that Hurston didn't have a high opinion of men and was a little feministic. I guess I don't really know if all men talked about beating their wives or what, but

I loved seeing Janie find herself and become an independent person. Hurston also did a wonderful job of describing the settings. Although the dialogue can be difficult to read, I felt it brought out personalities and made the connections between the characters stronger.
