I didn't care for this book at all. The premise was very interesting. It's 1960's America and the country has been divided between Japan and Germany, who have won World War II. The story is basically a spotlight on the country. And it's slow and boring.
There are actually about six different stories going on and each one is vaguely connected. It takes place mostly in San Francisco which is under Japanese occupation. They rely a lot on the I Ching which dispenses weird wisdom that only makes sense ...more

Given that The Man in the High Castle is more of a thought experiment than a well-paced novel, my true review hovers around a 2.5 star review. Told from various first person perspectives, the story speculates about how the world might be if the Nazis had won WWII. Germany has taken over America's East coast, while Japan occupies the West coast. Exterminations continue. Americans live under fear of the SS. 1. I greatly appreciate the fascinating premise of this story (the axis prevails in WWII) and award points to the author for taking a non-obvious angle on an alternative history.
2. The plot lines were anemic and every single character was morally ambiguous to the point of human disconnection.
