I respectfully request Donna Tartt's hand in marriage.

I liked that you don't have to waste time thinking about "who done it" and instead use that brain space to simply appreciate the fallout after it's done. The characters are really good and this has a pretty great ending. The writing is dense and layered.
While in general this is fantastic storytelling, my main problem with this book is the pacing. There are a few climatic highs, but the lows dragged on. Some might find the characters to be too unlikeable to enjoy, but that didn't bother me. Altho ...more

Untidy, undisciplined writing; a cast of insipid, implausible characters; awkward time shifts; no balance or finesse. Boring and ridiculous.

Re-read this marvellous book in two days, and loved it even more than last time. Quite brilliant, indeed. Even them good old Upanishads came by to say hello!

I have to be honest: I scanned the last 250 pages of this book. Afterthe "big reveal" it all went downhill from there. Donna Tarrt paints an appealing picture of New England life, but I got sick of the entitlement, the way of talking, and how unrealistic everything seemed. I know many readers love this book, but I didn't. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? What really happens in this book? Someone please tell me.

Wow! Talk about toxic relationships and characters you love to hate. Donna Tarot’s great writing propels this story despite its length.

the only thing wrong with this book is that it wasn't a million pages longer.
