"There are gentle souls who would pronounce 'Lolita' meaningless because it does not teach them anything. I am neither a reader nor a writer of didactic fiction, and, despite John Ray's assertion, 'Lolita' has no moral in tow. This is such a complicated book to review as I felt so many different things while reading it. First there was trepidation due to the subject matter. Then there was admiration for the telling of the story, disgust at Humbert, amusement at some of his thoughts, extreme boredom during the road trip portions, disbelief at the ending, and then admiration again once I reread the prologue. It was a book worth reading but not one I will feel compelled to read again.
