I have been excited about this book for a long time, having heard it was the first True Crime book ever written, that Truman Capote was a childhood friend of Harper Lee (and the inspiration for Dill in her novel TKAM), and I kept reading about how well regarded, well written & well researched this book is.

Fascinating. I totally understand why this is the paragon of excellent true crime narrative. Capote's extensive research meant I got to read the direct quotes from the murderers and the townspeople who knew the Clutters. This was a horrifying, senseless crime. It was however a fascinating subject. The detective work on this case was very good, especially considering the limitations of 1959-1962. Now, on to a happier read!
