I do not for one second wish to diminish the genius of Junot Diaz by awarding him anything lower than a five-star review. Junot Diaz is a universally acclaimed writer for a reason: he consistently brings the heavy-hitting goodness to the page. However, this collection felt a tad one-note (fair enough, they are linked short-stories) and I found myself to be uncomfortable with the casual portrayal of rampant infidelities.

Junot Diaz is one of the most unique voices in modern literature and this book seems so autobiographical. I loved how strong and and at the same time vulnerable this reads. Sometimes hard to see how something that focuses so much on spoiled relationships, on the graphic and vulgar, can also be so poignant, but Díaz manages to combine such apparent opposites flawlessly
