This ended up being merely okay despite a fantastic premise. The setup at the beginning is strong and I was immediately intrigued by Penumbra and the mysterious customers and books within his store. As secrets started to be revealed and the quest is begun near the middle, my attention should have been piqued, but instead I started to lose interest amidst all of the technical and Unbroken Spine mumbo jumbo and ultimately didn't care much what happened by the end. My sister compared this book to National Treasure, and now I can't unsee the similarities. However, I liked this one, however unlikely the premise :). Definitely an engaging, quick read.

While it wasn't as action-y and exciting as the blurb seemed to suggest, it was still very enjoyable, and I loved the parts about typography and book making.

I enjoyed this but as a sci-fi fantasy found it a little light (maybe a little too close to reality?). The names were clever and the idea of an original font founder had me playing with the options on my Kindle. A good read, and I'll look for more by this author.
