I read this book originally in middle or high school and reread it for the first time today. I had forgotten most of it, and was surprised how well it does a pretty well-trod path of discovering the imperfections in a "perfect" society. The language is simple, although I think this has more to do with the dystopian theme of making the familiar strange again to build a world that is not quite our own, and less to do with the young target audience. Another book I can't believe I've never read. It was a quick and easy read but still a good one. It kept bringing back memories of teaching when students would learn new words and would try to use them appropriately. They were always so happy when they did and I loved seeing it. Makes you wonder what it would be like to live in a community like this.
