LOVED this epic novel by Houston writer Cronin. It's thrilling and dark and heart-racing, but also an extremely absorbing investigation into humanity and relationships. A rare combination of fast-paced and carefully observed writing. And while I eagerly look forward to the next installments, and the next phases of the journey for these characters, I'm not left with that dissatisfied "but what about THAT" feeling of questions blatantly left unanswered that can drive me crazy when I have to sit ar

It got off to a slow start and I wasn't crazy about the ending, but overall, pretty entertaining. The characters are well-developed and the story is compelling. The apocalypse and vampires are effective vehicles, but don't dominate the narrative.

This is not my usual genre and it’s a long book. I hung in until the end despite not liking the narration of the audiobook. It was a bit disturbing to read this in a post-pandemic world.
Uneven. Uneven pacing, mostly, bit uneven character development, too. I fully admit to skimming a bit around pages 600+. And there's a sequel? Hmmmmmm.
