A touching and absolutely heartbreaking story. Brunt employs beautiful writing and memorable turns of phrase in her stunning debut novel. I was completely drawn into June's world and there wasn't a lull at any point in the book. All of the relationships were so fascinating to explore, especially the complicated sisterly bond. I loved discovering the source of the book's title and how Finn's painting became so critical to the riveting climax. I anxiously await reading what Brunt writes next! Rere

I loved being with June, the main character in this story, as she navigated her grief over the death of her uncle, her changing relationship with her sister and her friendship with Toby. June felt authentic and I was rooting for her all the way. I was sad when the book ended since I really wanted to spend more time with June to see how her life turned out.

LOVED. THIS. BOOK. Pitch perfect in descriptions, plot, essential messages and quick to read. What's it about? Being an awkward teenager, AIDS, art, parenting, sisterhood, the 80's... but mainly about LOVE. On my top ten list.

“I used to think maybe I wanted to become a falconer, and now I'm sure of it, because I need to figure out the secret. I need to work out how to keep things flying back to me instead of always flying away.”
“I felt like I had proof that not all days are the same length, not all time has the same weight. Proof that there are worlds and worlds and worlds on top of worlds, if you want them to be there.”

A coming-of-age story told by a teen grieving over her uncle's death from AIDS in the mid-1980s. Many of the characters are compelling and realistic, but I felt teased by the book, wishing it had taken the plot much further than it did.
