This my first Hemingway story and honest I'm surprised it took this long. The old man and the sea is a vivid and beautifully written story of a fisherman's epic battle to catch a huge marlin. I just loved Hemingway's writing. Also I listen to the the audiobook narrated by Donald Sutherland. He did an excellent job. Wonderful story. ...more

This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever said but the relationship between said dead fish and the man (even though it was one way) was pretty well developed. Ye that’s all.

I don't subscribe to Hemingway's romanticised version of the hunter/fisher as the most noble of beings. Found the whole thing very self-indulgent, and a bit pompous. Also, didn't enjoy the sharks being so villainous! ...more
