2018: reread for my creative writing class. Still love it, even though these kinds of short stories aren’t new to me anymore. But I found so many connections I missed and appreciated some stories more than before.

Based on rave reviews by friends who loved this book, I expected to like this book more than I did. I’m feeling generous today so I’m rating it 4 stars.

This book is not for everyone. It's a collection of stories about people involved in the music industry and it follows two of the main characters from adolescence into middle age. The reader watches as time marches on for these people and they are no longer as important in their jobs as they were in their early to mid-careers. As someone pointed out in another review the "goon squad" is time or death, so in that context, the ending makes sense. A favorite part was the description of the technolo
