The Ancient Greeks really knew how to make a tragedy. Of course there's the Bacchae, and probably Oedipus is another, but I felt a particular sense of horror at Medea.
Studying this play in particular was interesting. For many ancient playwrights, the idea is that the audience that you're performing for already has some idea of the background of the play.
