If you’re like me and had to read Beowulf in school, and also hated it, this might be the last book you would think of picking up.
I mean reading Beowulf in high school was the worst, right? I just couldn’t stand the whole manly men being manly heroes and fighting for their name and blah blah blah.
But…..
This was way more interesting to read than Beowulf. Grendel’s side of the story, though he doesn’t completely deserve the “misunderstood monster” mon ...more

It was interesting. It's been years since I've read Beowulf, so I'm sure there are plenty of references I missed, but I liked how he kept Grendel a monster. A more understandable one with his own sympathetic POV, but he's not a tragic, misunderstood character. He killed men and he feels no regret for it. (view spoiler)
