I loved this book! I had read Beowulf in high school and had forgotten most of it but now I feel like I should reading it again. This novel, told from the monster's point of view, was delightful to read. John Gardner is a master of the craft and you can tell it by the totally convincing world that Grendel inhabits. Beautiful descriptions and lovely language.

The book overall was pretty good, but analyzing it was... an adventure. I think this may have been a bad choice for my senior paper because it was so philosophical. Grendel was such a strong character, but I eventually got tired of him.
