Zombies should not be mistaken as the central theme in Max Brooks World War Z. Zombies, after all, are a simple rhetorical device for fear. Thus, it is not surprising zombies resurged into popular cultural after 9/11, which ushered in its particular brand of angst: terrorism. I had high expectations for this book, and while I liked it and am ultimately glad that I read it, I didn't love it like I was expecting to. Brooks is a fantastic writer, and he took a very unique approach to documenting the zombie war by creating a thorough oral history via many different voices. Started on the plane ride from San Francisco to Toronto. This is a really well-executed idea, and if you can buy the zombie thing, actually quite plausible. (And terrifying.)

Maybe a little long, as I neared the last 50 pages I was ready for it to be over.

I'm not sure I got all the tie-togethers of each story, but I am quite impressed by this book.

The war for our world is not just about the zombies that threaten it but our humanity as a whole. Who will survive when the fuel and food are scarce and dawn never seems to come. The book was a good and chilling read, I still get nightmares and chills. I look over my shoulder as I walk home.

All the reviews I read said that Robopocalypse ripped World War Z off... and it's true it did. This was very well done, my only complaint is that I wanted to know more some of the characters and have more details. ...more
