The short prequel to this book, With You, really hooked me in and I couldn’t wait to start this book to find out what would happen with Logan “Sculpt”, and Emily “Mouse”. By the end of the prequel I was really interested in their relationship and liked the budding romance between them. Unfortunately my interest in their relationship and the sense of anticipation with which I went into Torn From You fizzled out significantly once I got through about a quarter of this book. By the end of the prequel I was really interested in their relationship and liked the budding romance between them. Unfortunately my interest in their relationship and the sense of anticipation with which I went into Torn From You fizzled out significantly once I got through about a quarter of this book. I guess I just didn’t really enjoy the direction in which the story went and although a few key mystery elements of the story were obvious to me, I just wasn’t that into it. I didn’t dislike either Logan or Emily and although I was able to easily guess what was really going on with Logan, I didn’t feel that emotionally involved. It was like the emotional connection I felt with the characters in With You was lacking in this book. I did love how Logan aggressively pursued Emily and put his emotions out there for her. That’s the stuff of which dream alpha heroes are made. And he didn’t just talk the talk but proved beyond any doubt with his actions and self-sacrifice how very much she meant to him. The above mentioned self-sacrifice was repeatedly alluded to throughout the book (again, something I was able to easily figure out, though it was completely beyond Emily’s power of comprehension for some reason) but it lost so much power when it was never revealed directly to Emily by Logan but was rather mentioned as a passing aside by someone toward the end of the book. That whole factor had so much potential to be a juggernaut of emotion and regret, not to mention very dramatic, though accurate, evidence of Logan’s love and devotion. And though Emily does eventually find out, it’s briefly passed over and she discusses it with Logan once, for like 10 seconds. Such a wasted opportunity. Also, although we’re told what Logan willingly put himself through for Emily, we aren’t show any of it. I didn’t need gristly details but it really would’ve benefited the book had it been further explored and expounded upon.

I appreciated that while Logan was supposed to be incredibly hot he was not a man whore and while he was far too bossy and into control for my taste, I did love how possessive and protective he was.

Something else that would’ve greatly improved the story would have been to have included Logan’s perspective, especially during the 15 days of hell. Again, I was able to figure out that he went through emotional hell and turmoil during that time, which is even further confirmed later in the story, but I really wanted and needed to get in his mind and read and feel his thoughts and emotions.

As for the technical side of things, the perspective in this books repeatedly switched from first to third person, often in the middle of a paragraph, which I found to be very distracting. The writing itself was somewhat flat and some of the characters were not well fleshed out and were basically caricatures of villains.

Will I continue with this series? I’m not sure. I actually almost DNFd this book because I was dissatisfied by where the story seemed to be heading but read a few spoilers and decided to continue with it a few days later. Another thing that struck me as unrealistic and annoyed me was the fact that Emily not once stuck up for or intervened for Kat, who is supposed to be her very best and closest friend, when she was being insulted by someone repeatedly. Personally I would’ve been chomping at the bit to get at him for talking to and treating my best friend so terribly. But no, Emily stays silent and it seems like she was never disturbed by it. With friends like these...you know the rest.

3 1/2 stars because after I got past the slump the story did keep me interested, although the ending was very predictable, in my opinion. ...more

This book was good make sure you read the short story before you start this book it will help with the way you see the H. If I hadn't read that before starting this book I would have wanted to throat punch Logan. It still took a minute and understanding for me to come around but all in all it was a gut squeezing book and I recommend it :) ...more
