Can't thank Matthew Desmond enough for this clear-eyed, gut-wrenching look at eviction as - in his words - a process that binds poor and rich people together in mutual dependence and struggle. I thought I knew a lot about poverty and housing issues, but this book taught me that I have much to learn. Such an important read. If I could afford it, I would send a copy to elected officials nationwide. ...more

There's not much more I can add that hasn't already been said about this book. It is absolutely deserving of the awards and acclaim it has received thus far. The content is heartbreaking but Desmond's style made it less hard to read than I anticipated. I appreciated the end chapters on his personal experience with eviction and his research methods. It is a meticulously crafted book that should be required reading for all politicians and citizens of USA. ...more
