I'm struggling to come up with words that truly showcase what a profoundly timely and emotional novel AMERICAN STREET is.

AMERICAN STREET is about immigration, it is about two cultures colliding and trying to merge. It is about poverty and the struggle to rise from one's place in society through both honest and dishonest ways. It is about love and loyalty and above all it's about the American dream.

I've added this author to the growing list of YA novelist proudly representing people of color. Seeing yourself in print has a tremendous impact especially when the characters find their way. Fabriola's challenges are many, but the bond with her detained mother and spiritual belief in what many might see as strange, keep her focused. The author's note is also important to the story.
