While this book is marketed as a book about racism, and covers the effects of subtle racism, it is so much more than that. The book succinctly covers complex family relationships and how a parents' hopes for their children can be the very thing that divides the parent-child relationship. It shows that when people try to fulfill the expectations of others, they start to make assumptions about what others want and without true and honest communication, can end up so far from where they were trying
