I want to review this book properly, so I will have to mull this one over and maybe read through some of the passages again. To the casual observer, it may seem like so much less than it is. A lot of people won't like this, and the others will be profoundly touched. A lot to ponder in this short work, it is pragmatically delivered, yet I was overcome with emotion. I will clarify this one in a few days.

There's no way I could not read this book, given all the buzz and the fact that one of our best customers called it 'glorious.' And he was right. Definitely my kind of book...more character-driven than plot-driven, tragic yet hopeful, dysfunctional family, heart-wrenching, etc. A very contemplative novel and one that I wish had gone on for a few more chapters so I could know more about Lucy Barton.

I was prompted to reread this book after reading the author's latest, Anything is Possible. The two really belong together. After my first read, I was guessing at what Lucy's life must have been like. I rated the book three stars because I liked it but wasn't really moved by it. It was different this time. I really like Lucy Barton.
