This book was written as a conversation between the author and his son and what it means to be a black man in America. It is very heartfelt but also unflinching in its discussion of what is it like to live with racism daily. I could feel the depths of his hope for better for his son while at the same time his skepticism that it will be achieved. In the last few years, when I've been ready to tackle a title having to do with social justice, race or gender, I've found it hugely fulfilling to do it through audiobook format. Hearing these words in the author's own voice makes the experience even more memorable.
