Let me begin by saying more than one person has suggested I am not unlike the title character of this novel; a curmudgeonly older gentleman who has been dealt a couple of raw hands by life, affects a gruff and grumbly mien, but underneath, is a softie.

This guy is my new favorite author! This is the second book I have torn through by him because it is full of such flawed yet likeable characters---likeable precisely because of their flaws. So much life affirming small everyday stuff. I can't explain it but they are great reads!

There is nothing revolutionary or unpredictable about this book, but I loved the straightforward writing style and the ridiculously happy ending. And so much of it just makes me reflect well on my own life.

I loved this book! A book's value can often be determined by where the reader is personally. Apparently this book hit me at the right time and I appreciated the sweetness of the story and the value of friends and family contained within. ...more
