A touch of imagination tossed with a dose of reality. Younger siblings can be annoying. But also kinda fun. Especially when it comes to a magical elevator.

When Iris' little brother takes over her job of pressing elevator buttons, she is seriously miffed. In retaliation she presses the button so many times that it breaks. When the repairman tosses the broken piece into the garbage, she rescues it and tapes it onto her bedroom wall. She's surprised and delighted to discover that pushing the button opens a portal into other worlds.

Absolutely loved the vivid illustrations by Dan Santat, and the relatable frustration of poor Iris who is dealing with a new member of the family who is upstaging her and taking over her favorite task of pushing the elevator button! When Iris finds a magical button in the trash, she takes it home and suddenly turns her closet door into a lift to magical places.. 10/25/2024 ~ Reading this book with children has been a lovely gift. Watching their faces as they react to Iris's face & adventures is delightful. My students have such a glow of wonder as they see the three entries to the elevator portal. They also love the sense of discovery when they discover the secret of the location.

Such a CLEVER book! This one will capture readers' imaginations and make them consider what might be possible. As I read, I couldn't help but be drawn back to my own childhood when my sisters and I created all kinds of stories by pretending.
