Two things immediately sprang to mind when I first held this book in my hands. (I had no preconceptions about the story.) The car on the cover reminded me of the one my parents had when I was a little girl. The car was with us for a very long time because my parents did not believe in loans or mortgages. While I liked the story, the illustrations earned this book a five star rating. Curato's vibrant illustrations made Cuba come alive in this story. The author and illustrator notes bring the book home.

Good for elementary school storytime

This reminded me of When the Relatives Came by George Ella Lyon. Interesting how it focused on cars. I enjoyed the Author's and Illustrator's Notes at the end. Cool endpapers, too!
