Car-loving kids will really like this family's journey to Havana in their classic Chevy. The will also like the drawings of 24 classic cars and trucks on the end papers. The illustrator's mixed media illustrations, which include pencil acrylic and photo overlay and other mixed media, capture the excitement in the faces of the traveling family, and the beauty and bright colors of all the classic cars. ...more

This book captures the power of family at the same time as it reveals the diverse population of the country itself. It brought back lovely memories of my time in Cuba. 11/24/2017 ** Stunning illustrations and upbeat, rhythmic text (that reads much like song lyrics or poetry).

After the Cuban revolution in 1959 no more American products could be shipped to Cuba. The cars that families owned in 1959 are the same cars that they drive today. Cubans keep the cars going even if they have to invent a part or have a different I cannot get enough of the illustrations in this book!! Fantastic!!

As more Americans are traveling to Cuba for pleasure, this book highlights what many visitors are noticing - the old cars that have been kept running for many years. I think children will find it interesting since a 30 year old car in the U.S. rarely exists!

I can see why this is getting so much buzz. It really is beautiful and so much effort shows in how the book is put together. The Illustrator's Note also makes valuable information that makes the book useful in teaching and talking about everything from art to science and social studies with older kids. ...more
