A poetic story about the horse that helps deliver the milk in a time gone by. The narrator speaks lovingly of the creature, but never appears in the monoprinted and pencil artwork nor does the narrator reveal anything about himself.
The artwork is delicate and rendered with such love and softness. I really liked the view of Tony's eye when the narrator would pat him.

If someone took all of the compassion and gentleness in the world and distilled it into a poem picture book, TONY would be it. A atmospheric, beautiful picture book about getting up early to greet the milk delivery horse. Not much of a story but beautiful and atmospheric and I never have enough picture horse stories to meet demand.

Warms my heart....

A childhood memory of a boy and Tony, the dairy delivery horse beautifully illustrated by Erin Stead. A quiet reflection of the joy that Tony brought the boy in the early morning hours. Classic. After reading this book I needed to know the back story. The Steads read a poem by Ed Galing in a newspaper and fell in love with it. They then bought the rights to the poem from Mr. Galing's son.
