Pay attention to the details in this story of seasons, flowering plants and life cycles of butterflies. The pictures are meant to be read, as the few words will make no sense to most readers.

This book could be used in many ways: discussing language in a school with many students from other countries, discussing our earth and how we use it's resources, discussing the beauty around us, if we only would take time to notice, and even simply in recognizing how a story can be told in words and in illustrations, but is most magical when both work together throughout. This is not a book to casually choose. It is a book to savor and explore and share, again and again. ...more

Strange and yet simple. The illustrations are whimsical, while the made up language keeps you guessing. This would be a nice one-on-one read.

Interesting approach with a made-up language, but the pictures tell the story. Might use in my Foundations of Reading class - how do we make meaning?

Re-read Du Iz Tak? after reading a Publishers Weekly article about how the book is translated into other languages. So cool!
