I loved the personal touches in the story, and Blackall's illustrations are always fantastic. Happy to see this win a Caldecott!

September 2016 - I wasn't sure how this would work with Ben at 3.5, but he does know Winnie-the-Pooh and seemed completely entranced by the double narrative, never losing interest. I was surprised to find myself choking up reading it!

I wasn't sure how I would like this book when I found out it won the Caldecott award, having lived through "Finding Winnie's... Out of the 2, I like this one better. A little more child friendly.

The story of the real bear behind Winnie-the-pooh. A Canadian soldier off to train with his unit for WWI, buys a bear cub which becomes his units mascot. The bear stays with the unit while they train in Canada. Goes to England, but is given to the London Zoo when the unit is deployed. There Christopher Robin meets Winnie and names his teddy bear after her.

The story is charmingly told by the Canadian soldier's great granddaughter to her son. Real photos at the end are a nice ending touch.

The second book last year that told this story. This one written by the great grand of the owner of the live bear, that inspired the Pooh stories.
