meh.
I almost cried a few times, but I really wasn't too attached.

I found the premise a little too similar to Being Jamie Baker, also by this author, where the protagonist's boyfriend is killed in some car-related accident after a fight with said protagonist then protagonist and everyone else blames the protagonist.
It had the same foundation. Obviously, both books progressed way differently, but I must say I thoroughly prefer the Jamie Baker series.

I gotta say, I was so falling for Wes from the beginning. From when they were kids, there was something that made me choose him over Spencer. It was probably the fact that Bailey got to kiss Spencer first (when they were smaller kids and with spin the bottle) and I wanted the underdog. Although underdog is probably not accurate. Wes was the better looking of the two of them and not as geeky as his best friend Spencer. As the book moves forward, my heart went to him more and more!

Spencer was full of happiness in the afterlife. He loved his friends and he came back to help his friend, Wes. We don’t have all the information of what happened that night of his death. Little by little that information comes out to give the full picture of what happened. And it will break your heart when it all comes out!

You are also given that something is wrong with Wes, but you don’t know what.

Bailey has been in a “coma” for a year since Spencer’s death. Just barely living. Everyone has tiptoed around her. When Spencer shows up, she listens to him and is happy that he is there even though he is non corporeal. He tells her he is here to help Wes. He wants Bailey to be there for Wes. She tries but he seems very agitated around her. They end up together on an internship at the hospital for school. At times, he is nice. At other times, he is agitated and it is driving Bailey crazy. She thinks it’s hopeless. Spencer gives her things to do for Wes that he won’t reveal what they mean.

When her so called “friends” yell at her and dump her because of the way she is not interacting and seemingly selfishness, she wakes up. She finds a new friend and her sister’s relationship is improving. But the agony of my heart watching Wes’s life doesn’t get better until the very end.

Bailey didn’t seem self absorbing to me. She just dealt with the death as best as a teenager could. Wes was homeschooled so we don’t see much of him except for flashbacks and when they are together. He was an enigma to me. I wasn’t sure how life was for him until towards the end and then I started crying with his life as we were given it! I wanted Bailey to push harder to be there more for him but he certainly didn’t make it easy for her.

Overall, I loved this story. I loved what Spencer did for both of them! I loved the characters! I loved Bailey’s family and Wes’s mom! I absolutely loved the ending!

If you like stories of the afterlife, love, stupid teenagers, true friends, dying, dances, band, buses, and matchmakers then this might be for you!

"Love is as individual as snowflakes. It's all snow, but when you separate it and break it down, it's unique."

This book is heartbreaking and poignant, and made me cry, and if someone else had written it I probably wouldn't have loved it so much.

Kelly Oram's writing elevates any tale to a level that is difficult to achieve.

So thank you Kelly for making me cry, and for introducing me to the latest characters in your head. ...more

I would like to thank Kelly Oram for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

To start off, I’m going to just fangirl for a second! I am totally biased when it comes to this author. There is not a book of hers that I have not loved. She has a very unique way of writing different genres but will also put in one little sentence that draws all of her books together. Whether she is writing romcom, paranormal, or rip your heart out HEA romances you will not be disappointed in her work.

It’s been almost a week since I’ve read this story but the emotions I’ve felt while reading this is still fresh in my memory. I’m used to Kelly Oram’s witty Young Adult Romances but this one is so beautiful yet so heartbreaking. Imagine losing someone you really love at such a young age, and it’s not just that, but you also feel responsible for his death. Tragic eh

The Ghost of You and Me by Kelly Oram was perfect. If you don't like stories that give you all the feels, then this book is not for you because it literally had me in tears from start to finish. I felt every emotion that was given. Losing someone is beyond words but Kelly somehow managed to capture just exactly what loss truly feels like. A part of your heart and soul is gone and I'm pretty sure that everyone who has lost someone has wished they could see them just once more. ...more

As someone who has always loved Kelly Oram’s novels I was stoked to read The Ghost of You and Me. While fun and highly entertaining, The Ghost of You and Me wasn’t quite as light as the other Oram novel’s I’ve had the pleasure of reading, but it was still an absolutely wonderful story and so emotionally enjoyable.

Romantic at its base, The Ghost of You and Me focuses around so much more than the relationship building between Bailey and Wes and the adorable romance between Bailey and her late love, Spencer. The Ghost of You and Me showcases the pain that comes from loss and the impact it can have on a young adult who is experiencing a lot of the changes that come with growing up; friend drama, social issues, the threat of deciding their future—Kelly Oram showcases this all beautifully with a lot of endearing moments.

Engrossing and heartfelt, The Ghost of You and Me is a wonderfully written story with just a lovely hint of supernatural to give it that extra flare. Kelly Oram writes a beautiful story of pain, but hope and ends the story with a lovely aura of possibility. Highly recommend! ...more

I wondered after finishing this book if I will ever read a book by this author that I don't like. I don't think it's possible. Kelly Oram has a way of writing that makes you fall completely into the story. I cried a bit during this book but there were also some very funny and heartwarming moments as well. I love that Bailey is able to realize she needs help and does something to make herself better. It has "Ghost" in the title, so you have to go into it knowing someone died. And typically that means it's not going to be the light-hearted fun read I usually expect from Oram, but it doesn't mean I was disappointed by any means.
As with all of Kelly's books I laughed, and as expected from title and premise, I also cried.
This story was touching, moving, happy, sad and beautiful. May I even chance the pun and say it was Hauntingly so?

I really should know better than to start one of Kelly Oram‘s books before bedtime. It’s inevitable that I will stay up and finish reading it. I have never NOT finished one of her books in one sitting. They are that good . The characters are relatable, their plight heart-wrenchingly (is that a word?) real, and there’s just the right pinch of humor to get through the heavy I received an eARC of this book from the author. I really should know better than to start one of Kelly Oram‘s books before bedtime. It’s inevitable that I will stay up and finish reading it. I have never NOT finished one of her books in one sitting. They are that good . The characters are relatable, their plight heart-wrenchingly (is that a word?) real, and there’s just the right pinch of humor to get through the heavy stuff. I should have known better than to cave to my whims at 10:30pm, but I thought one chapter would be enough because I was tired when I started reading. Six hours later after multiple cries and a few snorts of laughter that woke the hubby, I was finished with The Ghost of You and Me and I was heart-broken and exhilarated and couldn’t calm down to sleep.

The Ghost of You and Me by Kelly Oram is her best yet. Honestly I may even like it better than Cinder & Ella (Sorry Brian!). I was a little skeptical about how I would feel about the book when I started it. I mean yeah boy is dead and girl has to move on, but there was a bit of a love triangle going on when boy was alive SO I was skeptical. I shouldn’t have been. Seriously, I should have had faith in Kelly Oram. She’s never let me down. The heavy topics explored in this book really hit home for me, and I don’t think anyone else could have written it better.

The entire book is told from Bailey’s point of view. Bailey is introduced as a heartbroken teen. It’s been nearly a year since her long term boyfriend and best friend died in a car accident. She should be starting to put her life back together, instead she’s a living zombie. She goes through the motions but isn’t really there. Her heart has been shattered to pieces and feeling numb is her way to get through the days. I’ve been there. Grief, depression, anger, even lashing out is all normal they say. Bailey’s plight is that she feels SO guilty she doesn’t feel worthy of the things she experiences anymore.

Then there’s Wes. I was a bit confused over his character at first. Bailey remembers him as a guy that hates her. He has hated her ever since she started dating Spencer despite the fact that he was just as much her friend as he was Spencer’s prior to dating. At least that is what she thinks. But that isn’t what the reader gleans. Like Bailey, Wes is feeling guilty for living when Spencer didn’t. My heart ached for Wes. He is so broken and lost I just wanted to reach through the pages and give him a hug.

And finally you have ghost boy aka Spencer. As the blurb says, Spencer can’t rest when the two people he loves the most are still hurting because of him. He is given a short window to come back and fix things and he can only appear to one person, so of course he chooses Bailey. I did not read the blurb before reading the book so I thought she was imagining Spencer but then realized no he was really there. I actually really liked this element of the book. The magical realism was not too far stretched. It was perfect for telling the story and helping the characters “move on.” I loved Spencer and I think I hurt for him just as much as Bailey and Wes did. I loved his wit and how he knew exactly what they needed from him.

Overall I really loved this book. I loved the characters, the plot and even the ghost. If you’re a fan of Kelly Oram or you enjoy YA contemporary, I highly recommend it. It is worth all the feels!!! ...more

This is newest book from one of my favorite authors! It's very serious, which is to be expected, given the subject matter, but still light-hearted in all the right places, demonstrating Kelly's talent with balancing tone. It's really a great story about grief and love and understanding and the power of true friends. The voice is excellent and drew me in.
