This is my least favorite Jane Austen. Still a go to read because Jane Austen is always fun, but it seemed with this one that she couldn't make up her mind whether to make it a parody or a serious story. I feel like this book makes a U-turn in the middle and it leaves me a little confused. Also, I think that it reflects Jane's distaste for Bath in a way that is somewhat depressing, with a heroine who seems somewhat unworthy of our love and respect, even after she has her coming of age moment. This was really a novel of two parts for me, which makes it kind of hard to rate. Our protagonist, our heroine, Catherine Moreland is invited by some new aquainteces in Bath to their family home, Northanger Abbey. As a fan of gothic novels, Catherine is predicting a fabulously gothic home, filled with ghosts, secrets, and other staples of the genre.
