On why he wrote Coraline, Neil Gaiman says "It was a story, I learned when people began to read it, that children experienced as an adventure, but which gave adults nightmares". I watched the movie first as a teenager and just finished reading the book. I have to agree with what he says.
The book is delivered in a clean and crisp fashion. I liked how the moods are depicted. It was a show, don't tell kind of a book. I can expect nightmares with button-eyed people from time to time ...more

It’s a great book but I always expect more out of Gaiman!
