I really really enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed how Dan Simmons wrote his characters and how he made me feel about those characters by the end of the book. The writing was good and the imagination of ways the world goes bad was very interesting and unique. I described the feel of the book as a mixture between Escape from New York, Akira, The Stand and a classic PI story. A fascinating read. Most all dystopian reads are inherently dark, but this one plays on key concepts that are currently haunting the remnants of society - nostalgia and ignoring reality. As an avid reader, avoiding reality is important for day to day sanity, but we do need to keep one eye on the road ahead. If we cave in to the lure of the things we think we want the most, or an impossible standard of happiness, Flashback would indeed be a drug capable of unravelling a great deal of society. Cri
