I was first drawn to THE WHOLE OF MY WORLD because of the cover. Its beautiful simplicity. The colours in the title, the exhilarated girl and that gorgeous tagline, “This is what it feels like to start again”. I bought it as soon as it launched. Then I found out it was about football.

Having read One True Thing, I was really looking forward to Hayes' first book, but for me it fell slightly flat. I've been trying to work out why & have decided that perhaps my age is one factor - it's set in the mid 80s in Melbourne, the time of my own teens, and I found the setting surprisingly daggy - partly also because of the names of the football teams, locations and railway stations all being changed - all of this distracted me. I'd say this book was 3.5 stars for me but I've rounded up.
