The message in The Hate U Give earns 5 stars. This is a very relevant read for all those currently living in our country.
The writing technicalities hold my rating back just a little, with hesitation, because the message and point of view are so powerful. But I'm trying to rate it like I would any other book. The writing wasn't 5 star "out of this world" to me. It was a little too long in places, with unnecessary description and dialogue.

Thomas is a voice of the times
I started reading this book a while ago & admit I had a slow start. I could tell within the first minutes that this was going to hit me hard & take me on a journey that deserved all my attention. I had to go slow. About halfway through I couldn’t put it down. This is a necessary read that captures America in its current state.
