I shied away from Louise Erdrich after reading The Plague of Doves some time ago, I wasn't a fan. But I've heard positive mention of The Round House several times lately, had a copy, and finally decided to give it a go.
The two books have character and story ties, but my reading experience was very different. The Round House is suspenseful, I found it beautifully written even when it wasn't to my taste.
I loved the Coutts family, Geraldine, Bazil, and young Joe.

Not an easy read, yet compelling. I was really intrigued by the legal and jurisdictional issues. The narrator retelling the events through his memory of being a 13 year old boy brought a reflective nuance to the story that often clashed with exactly what you might expect a 13 year old to say and do.
