Sacrilege! I know I'm supposed to love this book but I found it slow-going & difficult to read. I also think it's important to read this before you die, so I've done that. FWiW I've been having issue reading fiction for some time and I really couldn't get into this.. a lot of it sounds more like alternate history rather than speculative fiction.. which probably makes it more depressing. I can see why folks are dressing like Handmaids.. We got work to do people.

I'm perplexed and wowed.
I want to contemplate inwardly, and shout out "Holy Handmaid's Tale, Batman!!" at the same time.
I was astounded by the author's writing; subtle yet powerful, direct yet complex.
I was bewildered, captivated, horrified, and impressed.
I did not see this book as a work of feminism (I've seen it described as that). To me, it was a tale of every type of human relation dynamic possible in a society. Gender, religion, orientation, status, race, age, class, and more. It's a ta ...more
