Totally and utterly loved this book, the story, characters, world building all was amazing and with hint of magic was remarkable. I was told and read that it is retelling of Arabian Nights, but i never read that story so for me it was new concept and plot.

Totally and utterly loved this book, the story, characters, world building all was amazing and with hint of magic was remarkable. I was told and read that it is retelling of Arabian Nights, but i never read that story so for me it was new concept and plot.

For me it was one of those books who keep you engaged throughout the book, each page, each paragraph have something new to offer, won't let you break the tempo (really at some points it was struggle to where to put the bookmark). Main character was strong female like, but it's not our usual strong female character, she is determined, she headstrong, know how to take charge of the situation, know how to handle herself moreover other but with all that she has heart too. That was the thing i like the most she is emotional too, care about things too.
Story start with our main protagonist Shahrzad Al-Khayzuran already married to Boy-King Khalid "Caliph of Khorsan" and we get to know that king marries to girls every day and hang them to their death next dawn. And Shahrzad volunteered to marry only because she wanted to avenge her best friend who king murdered.

"One hundred lives for the one you took. One life to one dawn. Should you fail but a single morn, I shall take from you your dreams. I shall take from you your city.
And I shall take from you these lives, a thousandfold."

But things change, Love how author narrated the story from very beginning of the book, with giving appropriate amount of information and also withholding enough to make us read more and more. I thought it was going to be other one fantasy Cliché but NAH NAH, there's something new and surprising good and strong plot. As the story progresses it becomes strong, with some new things introduced which makes it more better and there's many thing happening at same moment at different places.

Character's were amazing and beautifully crafted, it was for not as i expected i was genuinely surprised how thing turned out to be in the last quarter.
In whole i would definitely recommend this book to all my booklover friends, do it a try if you are fantasy lover. It is a good book ...more

Da dove cominciare? Sicuramente una bella storia, a volte narrata un pò frettolosamente, ma comunque ben sviluppata e intrigante. Nonostante questo, per me non è il libro stupendo meraviglioso ecc. che tutti descrivono. Potevano essere sviluppate meglio le descrizioni del paesaggio, le abitudini della corte (quello avrebbe fatto la differenza a mio parere), un pò di folklore non ci sarebbe stato male. Reread: April 18-24,2016-- So gloriously heart wrenching. So many amazing quotes. And a beautiful story.

A thousand stars! The female protagonist, Shahrzad, was so smart and cunning that I eagerly awaited the times she engaged in a conversation with anyone. She didn't listen to any men and didn't her heart dictate her actions. She kind of reminds me of June from Legend, when it comes to her calculative ways and cautious way of speaking. Okay, okay, don’t kill me. All the hype around this debut sort of killed my expectations a little. I do blame 70% of it on myself, though, because I took about TWO FREAKING MONTHS reading this book, with school starting and all the tests that we had only after two months of school (I swear the teachers are crazy).
