The 5th Wave is about a girl named Cassie Sullivan who is has survived the first 4 waves of an alien invasion. The waves are basically a way to wipe out the human species. The 1st wave was a total black out. The 2nd wave was a flood. The 3rd wave was a plague. The 4th wave was Silencers that hunt down the remaining. She, her brother and her father end up in a refugee camp, where she and her brother later are separated. This is Cassie’s exploit to retrieve her brother.

I absolutely loved this book! The way it was written was gorgeous, but not too overdone. It was believable; I could imagine a person the age of the characters thinking the way that Rick portrayed it. Unlike most YA novels that honestly, make teenagers sound stupid.
The setting, as well, was not too ever done. I did not feel like it was being driven down my throat – Which I absolutely hate!— it was described in enough detail that I got a general idea of what it looked like, but enough was left out to allow me to imagine it myself.
The characters I loved… Most of them. I though Cassie was an amazing main character. She was complex enough to not be boring but I could still understand and relate to her, which I admire about a character. Ben was an okay character I didn’t see as much character development as I would like to have seen, but I did very much enjoy reading his perspective. Sammy and Bear, were just perfect. They were the little bit of innocence in an evil world. To me they symbolize that little bit of hope left in the world. Evan… In all honesty I did not like him at the first. I will be honest. But as the story line progressed I really did begin to like him. And then there’s Ringer. I personally, cannot stand Ringer. I just found she took some of the spotlight away from Cassie in a way, and as well I found her a bit too emotionless. Maybe she will be of more use in the next book, but I found her a bit unnecessary…
Then there are the perspective changes… I was very confused when it first switched from Cassie’s P.O.V to Ben’s P.O.V. I thought it was still in Cassie’s, I believed the entire book was going to be! So I had a bit of a problem with that. I do believe that it took some of the mystery away from the book, which would have added to the suspense and the climax of the novel.
Other than that I do believe it was an overall great book, and I am so excited for the next book in September!

3/5 stars.
I'm not sure what happened with this. It started off really strong with Cassie and the other characters but then it just didn't go anywhere for me until the last 60 pages or so.

I did like the different perspectives and the way everything was revealed near the end. I especially liked Zombie and Ringer and how they interacted with each other. Cassie acknowledges her period which is great! Cassie's snarky remarks kept me going throughout the book and my main reason for finishing it.

Fuck! that's all I can say right now... I just finished this book and I was like. what? I didn't really know what my feelings were, then I enter goodreads to try to figure out while writing a review... and there is when I realize that The Fifth Wave is not a stand-alone book. It is a damn trilogy!!!!
I didn't know it was part of a saga! But, I am so, so, so relieved.

This was really good. At first I was confused when it switched from different people but in the end that was the exciting part. And oh man did this book try to confuse me. In the end I refused to believe what the people where trying to make the kids and Cassie believe. So I was right all along but still the book had me doubting in some places. For Evan (view spoiler)!
