This may very well be my favourite Sarah J maas book so far! I cried so much. Manon is my Queen, I just love her so much! Actually I don't think I've ever read a book were I've loved all the women as much as I love them all in here, Aelin, Manon, Lysandra, Asterin they're all my badass queens and I love them! Can't wait to see more of Elide in Empire of storms too. ...more

Shelves: fantasy

This was fantastic. As usual Maas kept me thoroughly entertained (and on edge) with plenty of surprises. The last 200 pages flew by, and I've fallen in love with so many characters: Lysandra, Manon and Asterin, Elide... The list goes on! However, some things didn't go as I had hoped, namely the Arobynn situation. He was one of my favourite characters, and the way things resolved didn't do him (or his complex relationship with Aelin) any justice, sadly.

4 stars because it took me so long to read the second time around. I just couldn’t get into it the same way I could the previous books in the series. But I still loved it. I love Aelin, and all of the other characters. There were some seriously badass moments in this book, and I just KNOW the rest of the series is going to be insane.

I'd been in the mother of all reading slumps so getting through 700 pages was a bit of a task but in true Sarah J Maas fashion, she kept me hooked tightly enough to keep me coming back to the book.

I really enjoyed Queen of Shadows even though warming up to the newer characters took longer than say if I hadn't been reading so sporadically. Lysandra and Nesryn grew on me as the story went on, especially with Lysandra becoming key to a certain few events where she was brave and wild (you know what ...more
