Beware of Boys is about a stupid wolf capturing a clever and clever young boy and wanting to eat him for dinner. However the story isn’t as simple as that, as the wolf is running around finding ingredients for recipes the young boy has made up e.g. Boy Cake. The wolf doesn’t realize what the boys cunning plan was until it was too late, and the wolf learns a silly moral at the end of the story.

The book is about how the boy escapes the wolf’s cave by recommending how to cook a boy through three different recipes, with each one more delicious than the next. Throughout the book the wolf is required to collect ingredients to cook the recipes, however each time, the boy provides the list for each recipe, an ingredient is always left out.

This is a fun book that turns a traditional theme on its head. The writing is fast paced and packed full of humour and the pictures are detailed and insightful. The author uses the repetition of an idea to divide the story and includes an entertaining recipe at the end of each section. This changed the tone and pace of the book, which helped to capture the reader’s attention and allow for reflection. The pictures matched with the text throughout but were particularly useful next the recipes as t

This story is about a young boy who goes for a walk in the woods and is captured by a greedy and vicious wolf, whom he then manages to outwit when the beast tries to eat him.
He does this by giving him several recipes, first for boy soup, then boy pie and finally boy cake. Each time the wolf is given a recipe, it runs around desperately trying to gather all of the unusual ingredients, only to be told by the boy that he has forgotten the salt and thus given a new recipe.

Beware of Boys by Tony Blundell is a great, fun read; I only wish it was longer! This adventure tale focuses on a rather cunning boy who crosses paths with a big, hungry wolf and what happens during their encounter.
The book has many enthralling illustrations which at first, made me think it would be aimed at very young children and mainly visual learners. However, there is an entertaining pun in the story which some younger children may not understand unless they recognise that some words may so ...more

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found that the story had elements of little red riding hood and three little pigs. There are two characters that are very different from one another; a silly wolf that is easily persuaded and a young clever boy who is able to manipulate the wolf. The use of language and illustrations indicate that the boy has no fear. I would say that the book is suitable for year 4. It's good for class reading, individual reading, leisure reading but also for creative writing.

A very easy, fun book to read for both KS1 and KS2. It is great for recognising similarities with other well known books, such as 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'Little Red Riding Hood'. It can also be used for cross curricular subjects, such as Mathematics and Design and ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this brilliant, smart and humorous book and I can imagine it appealing to a wide range of younger children. I would suggest the book is suited for upper key stage 1 pupils.
