awesome book
This is an awesome book. You can't figure out how to figure the solution out until the very end. I like how team Kyle grew and grew and how at the end Haley told the crowd she was part of a team and not that she was the first one out and that she was the one who won. ...more

With all the allusions to classic children's books and the Dewey Decimal System, it's easy to see why this has been a hit with librarians and teachers. I also understand the comparisons to Willy Wonka, although in my opinion, Mr. Lemoncello lacks the dark side lying not too far under the surface of Mr. Wonka. In Grabenstein's dream library, there is no danger of anyone turning into a giant blueberry or being attacked by squirrels. Mostly, this is a giant "let's feel good about reading" puzzle. Y

Love, love , love!!! I so loved this book with all it's allusions to famous children's books!! And a great mystery with multiple problems to solve.
Mr. Lemoncello, a very famous, very eccentric inventor has invested a lot of money in a local library. As a prize he offered the winners of an essay contest the chance to spend the night in the library before it opened. Then the game got even better. He offered the children the chance to star in commercials if they could be the first to figure a way ...more

Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein- Fantasy/Mystery, 4th grade and up – I’d partner this book with many mystery adventures including Patrick Carman’s Floors series and The Candymakers by Wendy Mass. I was amused throughout this book by the children’s literature references and dewey decimal number connections in addition to simply imagining a library like the one that Chris Grabenstein has created. I’m looking forward to handing this book to a few specific readers but I’m n

I liked Kyle and appreciated his admiration of his idol. The idea of being locked in a super cool library and having to solve puzzles to get out is a pretty good one. Fans of humorous mysteries will enjoy this read.
Every librarian's dream. Really fun.

I loved this story! It is a great mix of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Westing Game - two of my favorite childhood books. I can't wait to share it with students.

A clever book for a clever "real" reader kid.
Don't think it will win the Newbery, but I'm putting it in the mix. ...more

Very original, enjoyable, fun and makes so many connections to modern adolescent literature for readers to form connections. It reminded me a lot of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory for its eccentric protagonist, but the premise and adventure are entirely different. Students are locked in a library and need to work together to solve puzzles and find the way out. Very fun!
