I did love this. I love the way Hazel's voice is Holden-like--tired and cynical and young but also geeky and uncertain. I can say with some confidence that the gallows humor the main characters share is authentic. And I just loved the smart, fast pace of the thing. Oh, and the frankness and non-exploitiveness (it's a word, right), with which Hazel's attraction and desire for Augustus is treated--refreshing. And I liked how the kids get to be funny and smart and have their own world of values and

Read this book, all you people who have not yet (or listen to it like I did -- the narrator is pretty great). John Green at the top of his game here in this tale of two star-crossed lovers who are not divided by their families, but by illness. I've been debating between this and Looking for Alaska as my favorite Green novel, and while the (slight) edge might go to LfA, TFiOS is absolutely amazing!

My favorite of John Green's books are still the ones told from the teen boy POV but there was a lot to like about this book. I particularly like how he depicts the adults characters as regular people who really get the whole concept of good parenting AND with kids who appreciate them without requiring the parents to be quirky or unusual.
A word of warning though: do not do as I did and read it in a crowded restaurant during brunch. I had a hard time not sobbing my way through a good chunk of the ...more

It's been a while since a book made me both laugh out loud and cry in the same chapter. The Fault in Our Stars has easily been the best book I've read in 2013.

I wasn't going to read this. I mean, a book about two teens with cancer? Why? But all the people I trust gave it 5 stars here on Goodreads.
And, it is a perfect book, avoiding the sentimental (*&%# these kinds of books often portray yet whirling you through emotions--humor, tears, anger, frustration, and more--as you ponder how these teens are coping and how they value life. I won't say more. No matter your preferred genres, give this book a whirl. ...more

perhaps i loved this book a little bit more because i recently had cancer on my mind, but i found it filled with so many beautifully poetic lines that i had to write some of them down. it would certainly appeal to it's intended YA audience, but the main character was also wise beyond her age. most of all, i'm a sucker for a well-written book that makes me cry, as well as one that makes me want to sneak in a few pages whenever i can, just to finish it... this book was both of these things.

I was bracing myself for disappointment with this one after all the hype. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Green is an excellent character writer and once you realize that this is not a story about cancer, but rather a story about two people trying to find happiness for themselves as well as for those they love. That they happen to have cancer simply makes this goal a bit more challenging. True, Hazel and Augustus often act older than their age, but I didn't find that unreasonable. There are

Wow, this is a really great book, full of witty dialogues, smart teenagers, inspirational quotes..and a heartbreaking plot. I do want to give it 5 stars, but somehow there's something amiss for me in this book, and I can't quite place what it is. Probably the too smart dialogue or the emotional void of the main character? Sometimes I felt this way, when a guy wrote a book with female main character. Oh well, I'm still gonna read more John Greens anyway, so we'll see how the other books make me f

This book got four or more stars from all of my goodreads friends. THEY ARE RIGHT! Green puts a whole new twist on the "kid dying from cancer" story. Put it on your must-read list.
