You definitely shouldn't read this without a refresher course on the previous three books in the quartet, but this is a highly satisfying and masterful conclusion to the series, converging all of the stories from the previous books. Fans of the previous books will not be disappointed!

Son by Lois Lowry - Science Fiction - Fifth grade and up. wow. Most powerful of books I've read in a long time. Read within a day since I actually had time to focus on it. Wow. So, the characters were continued from The Giver, a little bit, with extra characters added in that I never would have dreamed possible. I loved how the storyline developed and the new characters rounded out the old ones. I really want to make time to retread The Giver again, at least, along with Gathering Blue and The Me

There are few authors as skilled at creating characters that you grow to love and care for so much that you hate to see the book end because you want to be friends with them and know what will happen in their future. Lois Lowry is one of those authors, and she's done it again in her book, Son, the final book in The Giver quartet. Oh, how I hated to turn the last page and know I would not be able to follow the lives of Claire and Gabriel any longer.

Beautiful conclusion to the Giver series. As much as I love a good love triangle (and I do! :) ) it's nice to experience what a skilled author like Lois Lowry does with dystopia - the way she pushes us to think a bit.

Because I've read Giver many times, I was able to remember some of the details that I would not usually remember years after the original reading. Therefore, I was able to relate to the setting and happenings in SON very clearly, which made it a really wonderful read. The book is divided into three parts, all very different and enjoyable in their own way. Lois Lowry is certainly and wonderful writer and fantastic storyteller!
