Grades 4-7: If you have a chance to listen to the audio version of The Mighty Miss Malone, you're in for a treat: Bahni Turpin does a marvelous job narrating as Deza Malone. Christopher Paul Curtis shows that he is just as adept at bringing a female protagonist to life as he was with Buddy, Kenny, and Elijah, and that he is a master of engaging historical fiction. Returning to a previously lauded work, like returning to the scene of a crime, is not necessarily a good idea. Just because something worked once, doesn’t mean it will work again. See: nearly every Hollywood sequel. But sometimes, if the right person gets in line with the right idea at the right time, it works.
