I really enjoyed this, it is getting some Newbery buzz for 2025. Jack is twelve, lives on a farm with his parents and foster sister, Jupiter. They are in the process of adopting her. This is a sequel to Orbiting Jupiter, which I haven't read, and you don't need to for this to be a complete story. I think enough backstory is sprinkled in to make sense. We learn that Jack is adopted, and his friend, Joseph who was living with them died, and Jupiter is his daughter. Jack and his parents are raising ...more

Did not read the first book so will wait to review it until reading Orbiting Jupiter. Now I can say that Jupiter Rising makes a lot more sense. I wondered how Maddie died, and how Joseph died, and how old was Joseph. The first book answered those questions and gave me enough background. This will be a good read for those wanting to know how Jackie and Jupiter are doing. Once, again, this was a good book but not a great one.
