I thoroughly enjoyed The Night War. It was well researched as evidenced by the author’s notes at the end of the book. Miri is a strong and fierce character. Her time in the Catholic boarding school added so much intrigue to the story as well as the characters living at the castle! The two other girls living at the boarding school over the summer, Jacqueline and Beatrice, were well rounded characters as well. Not my favorite of her books (hello, The War that Saved My Life) but I guess that's not saying much because that book I just mentioned above and it's sequel (The War I Finally Won) are OFF the CHARTS fantastic. So, anyway, something about this novel didn't hang together for me. I didn't get as clear a connection as I needed between Miri (Maria) and the historical/mystical element. I did love the lesser told story of Jewish children being sheltered by Catholic nuns however. I would recommend with
